ABOUT ME
Donna J. Jones-Laskowski is the Co-owner of Laskowski Studio and Gallery and J-L Concepts in Idabel, Oklahoma. Along with being a featured artist at the gallery, she is also a photographer, domestic violence advocate for Get Strong Abuse Awareness which she founded with the help of her husband Joe Laskowski in 2013, health and fitness consultant for TruVision Health and Weight Loss, and a beauty consultant for AVON Cosmetics.
Donna was born in Idabel, Oklahoma on April 21st, 1973. Donna began drawing and painting at a very early age. Having a portfolio at an early adolescence and enjoying various forms of creative expression by her mid 20's. She began writing in her teens and though she has always enjoyed the arts, she took a break while raising her children. After finding herself in a difficult, abusive marriage that resulted in depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), she has now become a survivor of abuse and is rediscovering life's joys once again. Reconnecting to her talents from years ago, she continues painting, sculpting, drawing, and creative writing to this day. While working at the Gallery she and her husband, who is also an artist, have also added photography, digital photography and photography restoration to their lists of ability’s.
Wanting to give back to the community led Donna and Joe to create an online community in GET STRONG-Abuse Awareness. Get Strong was founded in efforts to reach out to others that have found themselves in similar situations of abusive relationships.
“By sharing our experiences and showing emotional support to people at a time when they feel their most alone, has been some of the most rewarding work of their lives.” Donna continues, “I have come through the worst of nightmares. I made some poor decisions and allowed myself to be misled into a world of lies, deceit, and abuse that few make it out of. But with the help of my family and friends and my renewed faith in God I found a reason to raise my head up again. I found a reason to smile again, and then when I found the love of my life, Joe, I found my strength in him, my motivation and my world took a new turn. I saw a chance at the life I had always wanted and never dreamed possible. If I can find a way to help just one person feel this kind of hope. Then all of this will have been a success.”
